Victim of Abuse Files Suit Alleging Jesuits of Missouri Province

Violated Written Agreement to Prevent accused priest from engaging in public ministry, teaching, counseling or retreats that would allow him to have one on one contact with women.  This may be the first such lawsuit of its kind.   Accused priest, former President of St. Louis University, engaged in public ministry and teaching in various universities and a parish in Berlin, Germany.

Quotes:

“Our client attempted to protect women who came into contact with this Priest from any kind of victimization by entering a contract with the Jesuits specifying that he would have no ministerial position that could put others at risk.  These kinds of agreements must be enforced if there is to be accountability within the Church.”  Sarah A. Brown, Attorney for Plaintiff

“Violating a commitment to protect future girls from abuse demonstrates the highest disregard for the safety of innocent believers.  Non-monetary commitments from an order, Diocese or Archdiocese designed to protect future potential victims is as important to our clients as their own healing.  We applaud our client for her strength of will and compassionate heart that has caused her to file this groundbreaking lawsuit.”  Rebecca M. Randles, Attorney for Plaintiff.
